All good things come in threes – recycling, energy efficiency and substitution

Lever 1 – Recycling

Recycling aluminium can save up to 95% of energy compared to primary aluminium production. This not only provides an ecological advantage over primary production, but also makes a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Recycling is the core element of AMAG‘s longterm corporate strategy and forms the basis for the manufacture of products with low CO₂ emissions at the Ranshofen site.

Application-oriented research and development and the associated high level of recycling expertise are the key drivers of innovation and sustainable products as the AL4^® ever product family. 

Lever 2 – Increasing energy efficiency

The second lever is to increase energy efficiency through efficient new plants, process optimisation and the reduction of the heating energy requirement of buildings, for example. The principle of energy efficiency is firmly anchored at AMAG. The facilities are state of the art. For years, considerable savings have been achieved through energy efficiency measures and the legal requirements have been (over)fulfilled.

Lever 3 – Substitution of fossil fuels

The third lever is used for the remaining CO₂ emissions: the substitution of fossil fuels by renewable forms of energy. The energy transformation is the major challenge of the coming years. A successful transformation requires the definition of targeted measures and long-term investment planning. To this end, AMAG has developed a decarbonisation roadmap in which the steps towards a CO₂- neutral site by 2050 are mapped in detail.
