OUR WAY TO NET ZERO

All good things come in threes – recycling, energy efficiency and substitution

Decarbonisation levers

Lever 1 – Recycling

Recycling aluminium can save up to 95% of energy compared to primary aluminium production (source: International Aluminium - Facts about Aluminium). This not only offers an environmental advantage over primary production but also makes a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Recycling is a core element of AMAG’s long-term corporate strategy and, at the Ranshofen site, forms the basis for manufacturing products with the lowest possible CO2 emissions, such as the AMAG AL4® ever product family.

Recycling strategy

Application-oriented research and development and the associated high level of recycling expertise are the key drivers of innovation and sustainable products as the AL4® ever product family.

Lever 2 – Increasing energy efficiency

The second lever is improving energy efficiency through measures such as installing new, efficient equipment and optimizing processes. The principle of energy efficiency is deeply rooted at AMAG. The facilities are state-of-the-art.

Lever 3 – Substitution of fossil fuels

The third lever is used for the remaining CO2 emissions: the substitution of fossil fuels by renewable forms of energy. The energy transformation is the major challenge of the coming years. A successful transformation requires the definition of targeted measures and long-term investment planning. To this end, AMAG has developed a decarbonisation roadmap in which the steps are mapped in detail.

Further information as well as the emission reduction targets and the reduction path can be found in the annual report.
